Default What if???

If the Mustang wasn't around to take all the sales from the ls1 series of vehicles, what would be?

Do you guys think they would be/have been dominating the market?
Do you guys think Ford would have just had a different series of cars to compete with it?
Do you guys think a different company would be in competition with it?
If yes to the last question, do you think the ls1 would have outsold the other company?

tried posting this in OT but OT is just a bunch of trash

the problem with LS1 (I used to own one) is that is really expensive to mod, the cars are expensive, labor, insurance, etc. that why we (stangs) dominate the market, fairly inexpensive car, mod, insurance labor, etc, but fast, LS1 all the way, a cammed LS1 with minor bolt ons can really give a hard time to a ligth modded terminator. mines will give a really nasty taste to a stock terminator, tell beated me, but really slooooowly.

well if the mustang didnt exist, the camaro and firebird would have been duking it out, and dodge would have gotton in on the action like they are now (challenger). ford, they probably would have came out with something, only reason people buy ford is for the heritage. think about it, toyota = better quality and MPG, chevy = better performance dodge = better performance and more practical vehicles. but ford has that mustang heritage that nobody else does.

Without the Mustang, I think the "American Muscle" cars (Camaro/Firebird/GTO/etc) would have floundered and maybe wouldn't even be around. The failure might be a bit strong, but that niche in the market would be a LOT smaller and probably a LOT less performance. Just my opinion.

not true, the camaro and firebird went under BECAUSE of the mustang. the mustang outsold them every year because of the cost of a ford v8.

I agree with that, but it would have been the end of the "working man's sports car." I think without the Mustang the price for those cars would have climbed very quickly. I still think the Mustang/Camaro rivalry kept the Camaro/Firebird around longer than they would have been otherwise. Just my opinion

I also think Ford would have had something else.

Who thinks the Mercury Marauder would have been thrown in the mix?

How long have those been around?
