Default Important Decisions

Well, after several weeks of deep thought I made an important decision that turned out to be the best decision for my family. Just a little overview of the purchases/ events that have taken place leading me to this. I bought a boat (Mastercraft Prostar 205) about a month ago. I have been wanting a boat for the longest time (approx 5 years) and finally found one that fit me and my family. I am into waterskiing and wakeboarding but have always had to do it behind someone elses boat and had to depend on an invite in order to partake in the watersports that I love. Now I can ski or board anytime I want. The only problem was the fact that my wife and I had two car payments anda boat payment and no RELIABLE vehicle to tow the boat with. I made the decision to trade my Mustang in on a new truck. We also traded my wife's Explorer. So now we have the new truck and our old '93 GMC Z71 (in need of a new tranny soon). What's nice about this whole thing is that we cut our monthly payments by more than half which allows me to be a little more carefree when it comes to filling the boat up with gas or going out to eat/ drink with my buddies.

I absolutely loved my Mustang and miss it alot but I got to thinking about how much I drive it. As most of you know from the "ask a cop" thread I am a police officer, and I have a take-home cruiser. The Mustang sat in the garage all the time only to be taken to the track every other Friday night or taken on the occaisional errand. Other than that she never got driven. I just couldn't justify almost $400 a month plus the cost of 93+ octane gas for a car that sits and doesn't get driven like it should.

I plan on sticking around Mustang Forums to help with questions about FI and Mustangs in general. I just wanted to thank all the "OG's" that helped me so much when I first started modding my old beast.

Anyway, I didn't completely sell out on y'all. I did get another Ford. I got a 2007 Ford F150 supercab 4x4. Not the fanciest model (FX4 or Lariat) but the sportySTX 4x4. It has all the power windows, mirrors, locks, and shift-on-the fly push button 4WD, towing package, satellite radio, mp3/Ipod hook-up, and CD player. And it has the 4.6L instead of the 5.4L. The only thing that it doesn't have is carpeted floors. It has the vinyl floor cover which I like better (spray it out with a hose ROFL). I'll post pics as soon as I get some.

I am actually pondering the same thing. I love my car, and have put way too much money into it, and now that I am in the process of building a new motor, I have been asking myself why I put so much time, money, and effort into something that I don't drive. The first summer I put 10k on it. Since then(3 years), I've put less than 8k.(84 miles this year). Just seems to me there's other things I could be using a lot more.....

Why don't you just drive the cars? I know the threadstarter can't because of the police cruiser and all that, but what about you other guys. If you love the car so much, just drive it. Don't preserve it by not driving it. That defeats the purpose of having a car that you love. It is basically like buying a TV that you don't watch or a guitar you don't play. There is really no point.

It does everything I need it to. The towing capacity is 7,000 lbs. It's more than enough to tow anything I have. Plus, the 5.4 in the XLT model 4x4 with extended cab with all the same options was about $37,000. I got mine out the door for $32,000. One car payment FTW!

My wife was actually very concerned about my wanting to part with the Mustang. She was like... You'd better think long and hard about this. She never once asked me to sell it. I was just thinking of her in my decision to sell/trade in how much she like the boat and watersports too. She did say that I could get another one in a year or so. I am going to go back to my 5.0 roots where I first started with Mustangs. I'm gonna look for a 91-93 notchback for a low price (that I can pay cash for and not finance)and fix it up. But I am not going into big mods like power adders again (maybe n20 tho).
