Default Starting off

Hey guys. As I have said on my other post i just bought an 04 GT last week. First time having stick. Had an 88 GT but it was auto. I am taking my time driving just to get the feel of it. I still bump a little bit when leaving first and shifting to second. I am just going to practice more.

I alreadyhave rice burners pulling up next to me reving the hell out of their car and then taking off as soon as the light turns green. I just casualy drive like i dont have timefor them but the truth is that I dont have any practice of racing with stick.

My question is how do you get off in first quick when racing. Like when street racing how should i start out. RPM, drop the clutch, what should I do? ANy help would be greatly apprecated. Thanks

I'm not the best driver and don't claim to be, but i've left many a car behind by simple holding revs at about 1200, dropping the clutch, and basically flooring it. After that just I usually just let off if I myself spinning and if not just keep at it. The biggest thing to get used to IMO is not missing gears.

+1 i found that on my tires(bf goodrich g force) i can launch at about 1500 and i will spin just over a chirp. but i also found that dumping the clutch isnt always the best way to do it. now i feather the clutch out and it seems to work well. not as hard on the car that way i dont think.

I always found that reving it very little, letting it out easy and just pinning it thru 1st is the way to go on a stock or close to stock car. You can't launch hard in a car with stock tires etc, so don't try, just get it moving in 1st and floor it without spin.

Get yourself some drag radials, they can make almost anyone with a RWD V8 look good lol.

They're expensive ($200+ a tire usually) but worth it

nittos in 17s (like a 245 or 275) are around 150 each, I don't think there is even a drag radial that costs 200 a pop.

I just ordered 2 MT ET streets tonight, can't wait to try em out, they are around 340 for both shipped from summit racing, but its enough to snap a stock 8.8 with spirited launching and they don't last long.

My nittos on average last around 10K miles, no to bad unless you put lots of miles on the car. They would last longer with no burnouts

These will mount on the stock rim and its an immediate difference. I had some BFG regular (non d/r but radial) tires and went to these, when the car only had a K&N, mufflers, and 3.73s. Went from spinning all the way thru 1st and some of 2nd to no spin at all:

[align=left]As stated, dumping the clutch isnt the best way to launch. There are two types of launches. You can burn out which is flashy but, slow as hell. OR you can launch with just a bit of a chirp and Goooo. I prefer the second. I bring my rpms up according to what your tire will handle. You will find this out by practice. THen let it out to the point of losing traction. You may get a brief chirp. I normally feather the clutch.
