CARFAX
A trust worthy mechanic is not always gonna tell you ifit has been wrecked in the past, flood damage, or if someone screwed with the mileage---IMO
But it would be a good idea to take it to your mechanic and have it looked over for any mechanical problems before buying.

Well here's the thing...
Last Tuesday I was driving my car in normal traffic. I was about 4 to 5 miles from my house sitting at a red light when my brakes completely locked up on me. Pulled over and tried pulling the brake pedal up to see if it would release. Nothing worked. So I brought the car to a place right down the road and left it there. After three days, a replaced proportioning valve, and $330 later, all they were able to offer was that they were able to get the back brakes unlocked. They also told me that they were able to drive the car twice as long before the front brakes locked up again. So onThursday they told me that I would need new brakes, rotors, and calipers for the front that would cost $800. I got upset and took my car and drove it all afternoon Thursday which was well over 40 miles with no issues. Come Friday morningI go to drive the car and see what the issue was and again after about 4 to 5 miles the frontslocked again. So I brought the car to a different place. They told me that our car's brakes work off of power steering fluid and that there was brake fluid mixed in and contaminated the line. ( I think my dad may have put the fluid in because I knw for sure I didn't) So they went ahead and flushed and told me that the brakes, rotors and calipers needed to be replaced. Since this was the second place to tell me this I told them to go ahead and do it. So they did all that work today and to no avail. They just called me about an hour ago and told me that the front brakes were still locking up. They then asked if my car was ever in an accident. This is where the CARFAX comes in. When I bought my car, I brought it to a mechanic to inspect and he didn't see anything so I went ahead and bought it.But now I would like to have someone run one to check it out for me.
