Anybody paint their own interior panels?

I picked upa can ofKrylon Plastic bonding yellow paint today, and sprayed the underside of my cupholder (inconspicuous area), and it turned out like shyt. It was all bubbly and uneven.

Is there anything I can buy from the hardware store I can paint the interior panels with? I want to paint the door switch panels, the shifter boot panel, the bezel around the radio and A/C controls, and the plastic panel around the gauge cluster.

Is there a write-up, or specific directions to follow? And do I need to apply any clear coats or enamel after the paint drys to protect it from heat?

i dont like that..it looks riced out..i just painted the "srs" and the pony on the steering wheel and the "mustang" across the passenger side air bag silver..it gives it a nice look to the interior =P.

 

oh ya and i painted the words "mustang" on the lower part of the door.

 

Dude that looks sick for a yellow car, I say do it. I work at home depot and I remember some guy(pro painter) said that they got everything you need to paint the interior of your car in the paint section. Just go down to one and ask them what you need specifically.

 

Do you have any pictures of this, and what kind of paint did you use?

I wouldn't mind painting my a/c bezel to match a Mach 1's...

 

Painted interior : rice.

I have never seen a painted interior in a late model that I thought looked good.

I used to work at a factory that painted OEM interiors (aka we painted the panels for ford for the escape etc) and unless you have a 500+ degree drying booth its not going to look as good as stock anyway. we spent ALOT of money/time/effort getting the heater booths right.

Hell, the clusterpanel for the mazda tribute had 120,000 watts of heater in it, and a 30 minute heat time

Regardless, painted interiors IMO look like ****. You can't paint everything to match, so yuo have this big yellow part right smack dab in the middle of a bunch of black and tan... yuck.

 

I painted mine. I used a spray gun alot of wet sanding and single stage enamel. Its very shiney and has been on there for 3 years and not a single scratch.
If you think painted interior is rice then you better call saleen and tell them to stop riceing out their mustangs. They are where I go the idea to do mine.

 

www.50resto.com has some really great paint for the interior. Had a nice little write up about 3 months ago.
