Default I NEED NEW TIRES!!!

Well i went to the track and my car finally performed like it should. My E.T. wasnt nothin special but my mph was pretty good i thought.

My best time was 8.69 @ 88 mph
2.22 60'
5.73 330'

I'm pretty well pleased, but now i gotta get some tires. I'm gonna switch from the 275/17 nitto drags to some 315/17 mickey thompson drag radials(the new ones!) And I think that i lost a mph or two with babyin the car outta the hole also so i think that once my 60 is down to like 1.9 or 1.8 i should break a 7

Get some shocks/struts/control arms too, made a massive difference in my car.

I am guessing right now with the nittos you can pretty much loose traction at any WOT in 1st gear? I know I was spinning the 315s thru 1st and most of 2nd before teh suspension. I can now leave at 2k, let the clutch out, and once its out and hte RPM drops down to around 1200-1500 RPM pin the throttle and it will hook all they way thru 1st. Makes a big difference.

Once ya get the MTs, one thing they don't tell ya is you ahve to BURN the crap outta them in the waterbox. I spend 1/2 the night last time with worse 60's than teh nittos before I realised they wern't hot enough. After that, I left at 4K with no spin

Nice times man. That's a great trap speed. People in here don't care about racing, they'd rather post in a poll about intakes, or wheels.

That 60ft is horrid for D/R's(if you can call a Nitto a drag radial)

The MT's will help you out, but it's not gonna do anything amazing until you move down to a 15in rim or even a 16in. There's not enough sidewall with a 17 to flex that way it should. I went from 1.85-1.90 on the 275/17 MT D/R's to a 1.66 last night on 255/16 BFG's with no suspension mods. You'd REALLY be surprised what a little more sidewall can do for you. IT's not just about the compund of the tire. The other idea behind drag tires is them being able to "flex."

And yes, with any D/R, you have to get them BLISTERING HOT! Don't pay $300 for track tires, and be scared/too cheap to really USE them.

I may have been over doing it, but last night I was on $20 BFG's on their last leg, and I was ROASTING the crap out of them. 15+ sec 2nd gear burnout. I'm sure I wouldnt have been quite so hard on a NEW set of ET Street radials, but you'll never again catch me inching up to the starting line, wondering if my tires are hot enough.

I agree...Im getting a 31 spline upgrade tomorrow, and then ill be ready for the track...I have the suspension mods(drag struts/shocks, adjustable upper and lower control arms) but i think im still gonna run a 15" drag radial over slicks...Im so nervous to break the stock tranny/clutch...so well see.

They say ET streets are only good for about 3k miles....... But you can run them all the way down to the wires!
