Default claybar questions

i know people are going to say this belongs in the detail section, but there isn't much turnaround on posts there. i want to claybar my black 99 gt, but don't know too much about it. i'm under the understanding it's a long and gruling process in which you rub the clay with your fingers using a quick detailer as a lubricant?i'm looking for recommendations on brands, but mostlytechniques. also how much of a difference can i expect? and pics of cars after being claybared would be great! thanks

i had to use stage 2 polish to get all the waterspots from under the previous coat of wax. then i used claybar, just dont rub in one spot for too long or you will damage the paint. then i waxed her up, the pic in my sig from right after this i drove down the road and took some pics. i used turtle wax polish and mothers clabar and wax kit.

yes, thats my passanger door.

this is right after the polish, if you look at the shadow of my hand you can tell the difference between the hood and panel.

heres the car all waxed up.

i did this for a show the next day, ofcourse it rained the whole way down to the show [&:]

so you used polish first, then claybar? is that how you should always do it, b/c i have waterspots too. i don't have a wheel, and haven't really used polish or wax before, so i'm a little leary about the whole thing. as much info as possible would be great

well i havent done it on my mustang but i used turtle was rubbing compound with a buffer on my 94 B3000. The red had turned to oxidized pink. I did one coat of rubbing compound and 4 coats of meguirs color x which i highly reccommend for fading colors and one coat of protectant wax and the truck look brand new. If you car is really oxidized i probably wouldnt do rubbing compound bit its simple to wax or use taht clay bar and it would probably be worth doing to a 99 if it hasnt been waxed in a while. I wax my 03 4 times a year and spray detail it with wax after every other wash and i wash it usually once a week because i only drive it 3 times a week and it always gets dusty sitting in the drive way i need a cover bad.

oh and yes use the clay bar, then maybe a cleaner wax ike that megiurs color x then go over it with a protectant like a paste wax. Anything megiurs makes is excellent and turtle wax ice is good its expensive though. I know that sounds like alot but thats what i would do im kind of obsessed with keeping my paint perfect.
