They may be more advanced, but they sure aren't more powerful.

if i were you, id try to pick up a 5.0. just because its cheaper to mod and ive never worked on one as my own project car, could be fun. if you wanna built your GT, id keep the sixer as a DD

Only thing that sucked about the 5.0 is that damn smog crap and crappy air pump.

Pushrod engines are aged US automaker technology, however because of their prevalence and that they have been around for years there's a lot of knowledge and goodies for pumping them up--they are also a lot cheaper to manufacture. There's some prettydecent horsepower to be had from the 4.6L 2V, however the presence of the 3V and 4V engineshas put serious efforts to do so on the back burner--keep in mind that the sacred "5.0" is also a 2-valve motor (and don't get me wrong here--I REALLY wish Ford had made the 4.6L a "302" just for the sake of the legend if nothing else)...As for the Viper it's engine is hardly a high-performance motor, it's just big... At 8.3L and460 rwHP it's pumping out a whopping 55.4 HP/litre--my lousy 4.6L 2V with cheesy bolt-ons (246.2 rwHP) is cranking out about the same at 53.5 rwHP/litre.
