Default IRS to a solid rear

Well, I've been inspired by some of the sweet rides on this site and have decided to turn the cobra into a straight line car (since the two tracks nearest to me are drag strips) Anyways, right now I'm kinda poor, but would like to get started on the car by getting rid of the IRS. I was told that the solid axle would bolt right in, but what other items will I need? Upper and lower control arms? I want a setup that will handle 700+rwhp so I'm assuming 31 spline axles will handle that? or do I need to go beyond the 8.8 solid rear axle? And last but not least price? any ideas? Guessing $1500.00 in parts?

I have no idea if it can be changed, but if I were to change axles around I would go for a ford 9"

An 8.8 will supposedly bolt right in. How much stronger is the 9" ?

well it's set up conpletely different. the career and gears are in something called the "third member" and it is bolted to the front. I'm pretty sure that the splines and axles and everything is much much stronger.

They can send you exactly what you need.

Im sorry Im not an expert in this area, but I do know that those rearends take the punishment really well.

For anyone interested in swappingI'm located between Baltimore and Annapolis in MD. If I do end up just buying a new rearend, the IRS will certainly be put up for sale on this site.
