quick question....how come they only manage to squeeze 260 hp out of it....Audi do a 4.2 V8 DOHC that produces 414hp....just for an example? is it emmission laws in the US?

It seems that most people that try for big numbers N/A(naturally aspired) usually come up disapointed. So the best 'bang for your buck' is going to be a supercharger. The supercharger will get you to 400rwhp which is the usual cutoff point for safety.

400HP with a blower??? All I've ever seen is somewhere around 330-350 RWHP. Unless, of course, you're running a huge amount of boost. 400 seems wayyyy high.

in the money you spend on bolt-ons, you can do head and cam work or the better idea would be as adam stated, F/I. can get nice kits for around 2-3000 and used ones cheaper

Several things. 1) Audi spent lots more on engine development, and charges much more for their cars. Ford's not been the best at engine design for the past 10 yrs or so IMHO. Proof? Check out he old 3.8L V6 - a total turd. 2) 4 valves per cylinder vs. only 2. 3) tuned for top-end hp vs. tuned for lower RPM. I bet that Audi revs quite a bit more to get the power.

Drop a chip in those things and it really does make a difference, a big difference.
My daughters NA 2003 Jetta revs like there is no tomorrow, but it has no torque.
Still a fun car to drive though.
I have the Performance Products TB and Plenum, its a nice upgrade but no way you get 8-10rwhp N/A out of it.

Sxynerd,
Did you notice anything with the tb/plenum? I'm interested in getting it, hoping I'll get 8-10rwph... I'm looking into the PP Plenum.
