Default Gas thread (need help

Yeah, its kind of just another "why am i getting such crappy MPG" thread

but my questions might be a little bit different so stfu with the flaming, please [sm=badbadbad.gif]

just recently as some of you might know i went through some water and had to clean/oil my K&n filter

well i dont think i put too much oil on the filter because it's the same color as it was when i first bought it (indicating that it's oiled properly)
so i dont think my MPG loss is because of that

the car has about 45k on the clock and the MPG has gradually been getting worse....stock plugs, but the fuel filter and air filter are relatively new, the fuel filter is about 5k miles old

the car has recently been sea foamed and has injector cleaner run through it (witin the past 9k miles)

i filled up hoping to get 300miles out of this tank, right now im at 180 and have only 1/8 tank left [:@]

the last tank i went 240 on the full tank [:@]

wtf is going on?

i think its running a little rich because the exhaust tips are super black (even though im catless, they're still FULL of carbon)

so what should i look for???

plz help

cliff notes: went through water, now getting sh|t mpg - 45k miles on clock all maintenance done - i think its running rich - what can i do?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

don't understand how you people get the mileage you do. i haven't gotten anything less than 25 mpg (usually 26-28) since early spring.

i'm usually pretty close to 350 miles once my low fuel light comes on. this is with mostly highway driving though.

exactly - i've talked to so many GT owners that are getting 300 to a tank...i usually get about 220 with mixed city/highway - my highest ever was like 240

i'd be happy with 250-270 a tank, but im struggling for just 200 out of this one

idk wtf is going on

it has been blazing hot and humid the past couple of weeks, which means the engine does not run as efficant, right?

Im thinkin thats the same reason I'm getting **** for mileage too. I have an 02 auto GT and I'm lucky to get 200 miles to a tank on a regular basis. Iono what it is...but I cant get over 200 miles to save my life. I'm hopin that once I get a tune that it will go up...but I'm highly doubtin it. The insides of my exhaust tips are blacker than black so I have a feeling I'm running uber rich. I'm starting to think about sellin the GT if this **** keeps up.

same i check my MPG every fill up consistently 19.XX which is around300 miles per tank, but light comes on at2-3 gallons left so i fill up.....thats 25% of the time beating the car up... never went through a tank of normal driving...........

when i first bought the car i was averaging 13-16 then i started modding and i am getting better mileage.......... are you an auto?

You probably have an oil film on your MAF. Take it out and carefully clean it. I use Isopropyl Alcohol, but you can also buy cleaners specifically made for the MAF if you want the spray option. This is the problem with any oil based filter.

BTW, I typically get around 24mpg with my '03GT. Don't know how many miles that is per tank, but about 190 at the 1/2 mark where I fill up.

It really depends on how much city/hwy driving you do. I used to get about 190-210 milesper tank. Now i get 230-250 miles per tank becauseI haveuse the freeways more to get to work. I dont beat on my car or anything but i do drive it fast. 80-90 mph on the hwy, and i like to run through 1st and 2nd gear hard.Try running through a whole tank of gasand keep ur shifts under 2k rpm with out ever getting on it. U should see a big difference and it will let u know if there is something wrong with the car or something wrong with ur right foot.
