Default Cleaning your engine compartment

I just got done degunking and washing down my engine compartment the other night, it is really nice and clean now, what is a good product to make her shine nice?

I want to get the hoses and wires all nice and shiny looking.

I cleaned and rubbed down the painted painted parts and they look great, but the hoses and wires are still dull and drab.

I thought about using Armor All, but I want to know if there is something else specific to use.

On as side note, I was trying to keep the water off the ignition, but failed, I ran it up and down the drive way and it was hesitateing and skipping a bit, I got water in some place where it shouldn't have. I ran it again last night and it seems to have dried out as it is not doing that any more.

All of my aluminum and or cast parts have turned oxidized and nasty looking over the years, (Cold air intake with the horse on top and thermostate housing mostly) short of replacing them, what is a good way to clean them up and make them look good again?
Also the some of the bolts and screws have turned rusty over the years on various palces on hte engine compartment components, again short of replaing them, will painting them be OK to get them back to looking good?

Lynn

You may want to try in the detailing section of the forum. Those who know a thing or two about this probably hang out over there. Here is a quick link---

Attracts nothing but dirt!!! That and it makes it look like your hiding something up! I degrease my engine and then soak armorall all over the entire engine. Let it sit for a little while and then spray all over again..don't be shy! Immediately start wiping all of the parts off and kinda work it into the rubber parts. After your done....Rinse! This will remaove all residue from untouched areas and remove that greasy film that catches dirtand still have your plastic and rubber look professional and clean..most of all not looking like a scheister car dealer...lol

For what its worth, I use Simple Green cut with water. About a 50/50 solution is OK. Spray it on the engine and lightly hose off after a few minutes. Engine cold. I take the time to cover areas where I don't want to get wet with Saran wrap. Then, when dry, I spray the engine with CD2 engine detailer. Looks great.

I've never actually done anything other than wipe down large parts of my engine, but after looking at lizzyfans photo, it's awfully tempting.

Especially considering that I live on a dirt road.
