Cherry Bombs -vs- Straight Pipes
I've had straight pipes on my Mustang for the past week or so. I like it. Alot. It gets a ton more attention and our 4 6's produce the perfect sound for straight pipes. I love the loudness, but in some ways its not practical, the obvious one being that it's illegal, and the second reason is that straight pipes cant keep quiet if you want them to.. With my stock mufflers, you could get it screaming pretty loud if you wanted, but on the flipside, they could also be quiet if you wanted. As far as my straight pipes go, even the idling is very loud.
Thrush glasspacks (the Magnum ones) supposedly reduce the sound only 2-3 dB from straight pipes. How much do Cherry Bomb's reduce noise? Is it about the same or do Cherry Bombs reduce it substantially more? Also, do cherry bombs tend tokeep the samebalanced level of bass and treble as straight pipes, or is one more overpowering than the other? Obviously the ricers use their stupid 'coffee can' glasspacks, and they're FULL of bass, but then again, thats the 4 cyl at work.
I hadglasspacks on my old 72 Camaro, and loved them, (that was in... 1981) but I really dont vividly remember the answers to my above questions.
The original reason I had my mufflers off was because I was gonna put on some A/T's, Im really not sure if I could go back to being that quiet after having straight pipes... haha.
Thanks guys.

Hey, thanks for your help so far.
Basically, for anybody who's used old fashioned Cherry Bombs, is it loud? Louder than 40's? How much quieter than straight pipes?
Thanks

Trust me I know the feel...lol. I'm always all over the place when choosing exhaust and such but I'm set on what I have now. NOW I'm having your problem with a new set of wheels hahaha.
I went with LM2's and I have never looked back. I heard another members stang last night at the track. He has Cherry bombs and an O/R H pipe. It was loud as hell. Not as loud as LM1's with an O/R pipe, but it was loud.
The only thing louder than the SLP Loudmouth 1s with an o/r x pipe is a Cobra with the Ford Racing m55 catback and an o/r x-pipe lol now we're talking absolutely insane.
In a pefect world with no 80 year old neighbors or police, my current plain ol' straight pipes system would be my pref. overanything. But, straight pipes just won't work out for obvious reasons. lol
I'll tell you what I'm gonna do. I think I'm just gonna buy some stupid cherry bomb glasspacks, put em' on and see how I like them. I'll post a sound clip or something too. They're so cheap that I might as well try them.
I've got a custom H-pipe so it already creates a pretty good rumble.
