what mods
Exhaust (Midpipe and cat-back)
Gears
Those are the two cheaper performance mods worth it. Intake and the other stuff don't do enough for the money. You can always complete the exhaust with headers, do intake and tb/plenum and eventually forced induction if that is what you want.
There is always appearance and suspension mods too. Never underestimate suspension. It can help out more at the drags then most bolt ons. You can always go for handling also.

Performance and bolt ons is what 90% of this 4.6 section is all about. Go to the tech section and read through the stickies, there is a TON of useful information there, all in one spot and you don't have to wait for redundant responses. Specifically, look for an article/thread titled something like "Texas Hot Rods 12 second 2V" in the "Tech/How-To" section.

Basically every response will be similiar to what I said in the first post. Just read through stickies and posts.
Gears, exhaust (off road mid-pipe and catback) are definitely the first mods I recommend. Those can be done for less than a thousand dollars, and is a really good start for your mustang. You might want to have a reputable shop swap the gears for you, unless your pretty car savvy. Gears will help you tremendously with acceleration, and exhaust will give you a great sound and release some horsepower. Another great mod (that is free) is an intake silencer delete, where the intake is removed before the air filter. Another 40 dollars can buy you a drop in K+N air filter from your local parts store which will furthermore increase your airflow.
