my 3650 dissasemmbaly process
day 1
i drained the trans fluid, took out the driveshaft and took the h-pipe out. last time i drained the trans fluid it had gold flakes in it(synchro dust). this time it was silver(no grinding of synchros so, bearing or gear dust. so yea, thats a sign the trans is fukced. no worries, i was in the process of buying a tko anyway. im pissed because i found rust on my bbk LT ceramic coated headers! never again! i would have bought the macs and saved money if i knew the bbk's would rust. oh yea, does anyone know if its possable to take the trans OUT with the bbk longtubes in place? its been done before https://mustangforums.com/m_3632683/tm.htm ,but im not sure what brand they were. |
RE: my 3650 dissasemmbaly process
Are you just putting in the TKO? Or actually dissasembling the 3650? Taking out and dissasembling are very different.

RE: my 3650 dissasemmbaly process
well i am just posting my progress. im taking out the trans and disassembling it. https://mustangforums.com/m_3697693/tm.htm
the trans is pretty fukced up as you can see in that thread. im sure the problem will be pretty intresting and extensive, so posting my progress. many other people have had or probably will have problems with their t45 or tr3650 because they are the sh__iest transmissions produced by tremec. |
RE: my 3650 dissasemmbaly process
allright. i,ve got the starter out, the hpipe is out, crossmember, harness out.
all i have to do is unbolt the bellhousing. i found i cant lower the back down far enough to get to the top bolts b/c of the passenger side header. so how do i unbolt the header? how do i get to the motor mount? |
RE: my 3650 dissasemmbaly process

RE: my 3650 dissasemmbaly process
thanks i searched for a good thread i saw before but couldn't find it. i managed to get this far without taking the header(s) off, but i cant even get to the top bolts from the top because of the bullitt intake. crypes

RE: my 3650 dissasemmbaly process
it'll suck, but u may have to suspend the motor up, and drop your k-member out to get all the bolts outta the header to get it out. i had to drop the k-member out to put my LT's on, so i'd imagine you'd have to drop it to get them off??? and u might have to take the starter out. if i recall correctly, it was in the way of getting to bolts as well....??? please correct me if i'm wrong.

RE: my 3650 dissasemmbaly process
well i managed to get the starter off(the top bolt was fun). i am trying to go quicktimes route but i may not be able too.
|
RE: my 3650 dissasemmbaly process
i am so close i am going to try everything before taking out the kmember. i simply do not have the room to take the kmember out, and my garage is uphill so once my car goes down the hill it doen't come back up:(

RE: my 3650 dissasemmbaly process
You dont need to take out the k-member to remove your LT headers. I bought a rebuilt T-3650 and had to try 3 until I finally got one that was rebuilt right.. But Ive taken my transmission out 5 times now... All you have to do is unbolt the two motor mounts from the K-member and then put a 2x4 on the lip of the engine block up front and jack up the motor about an inch. That will give you enough room to remove all the bolts.... And a racheting swivel box end 3/8" wrench is your friend!! Then remove them, and of course remove your starter first. Then you can remove your transmission easily... What you did is crazy!! You have to index your clutch to your flywheel, there a matched set once you wear it in. So I hope you marked its location. It takes me about 8 hours to remove and replace it all. No as for disassembling your 3650, dont just tear into it with no manual. I know it may be tempting but you may be able to repair it... You need to buy a copy of this.. http://cgi.ebay.com/2003-FORD-MUSTAN...QQcmdZViewItem
I have that book for my 03, its got atleast 1000 pgs, but it covers all models for whatever particular year. It goes over step by step the break down and build up of a T-3650, T56 and T5OD. My T3650 went to **** too, so I plan on rebuilding mine also. They also sell that manual on CD, I got my paper copy for $80 on ebay. If I had a scanner I'd scan all the pages you need and send them to you, but sorry I dont. I think anyone that does there own repairs and performance upgrades needs a manual for there model year. Well what ever you decide to do take pics... good luck |
