Well I'll be damned...
Ya, I find it hard to believe that you can get 28 mpg. EPA estimate is like 25 by the old standards and around 23 by the new ones. I have an auto with stock gears (unless the 60 year old lady that had it before me put in different ones) and the best I got was 23.
Congrats on the gear surprise though.
It's probably a combination of different variables. Make sure you aren't putting E10 in your car. Ethanol blended gas causes your car to get worse mileage. With E10, it's about a 10% difference in mileage vs. regular gas. I consistently got 20 mpg with ethanol blended gas and usually get 22 mpg w/ regular fuel.
Congrats on the gear surprise though.

Sorry if you guys do not believe me. It was about 3 months ago the last time I had kept track on how I was doing on gas. I had peaked at about 27.9 to 28 and that was for 4 days of just highway driving. Andthis is only me calculating with it when I am really granny driving it.
But like I said, sorry if you guys dont believe me. There is no way in hell I can prove it to you guys, only way is if you keep track of it yourself, but you have to be here to do that. So guyscan believe what ever you'dlike.

I thin ksome folks are stretching the truth just a bit on MPG. Unless you're always driving with the wind and downhill, you're not going to average 28 MPG in a V8 Mustang.
If I drive nice I get about 20, with about 1/2 or more on the highway. If I drive "normally" I get about 17-18 with the same mix.
4.6L 2V
135K miles

CAI, muffler, UDPs, 3.90s

I avg 13 in the city, normal driving, shifting normally between 2000 and 2500. Hwy I get 24-25 MPG with the ol' stock 3.27
Do you know if your speedo is cal? If he had the gears installed he might have not recal. the speedo which would be adding more miles on the odo which would seem like you are getting those mpg's. Im not doubting you, just curious. I get 25 mpg in my car 1/3 city and 2/3 highway [8D]
