Default Your thoughts on oil filter manets?

I've read in a magazine that these work good.I also know from writing at a magazine before that usually their stories are padded advertisments. So of course it will say it works.

I've contemplated the pro's and cons and am at a wash. That's why I figured I'd ask opinions on this one.

Pro's: makes sense that metal particles would attach to the side of the canister, and if that is true it would help the engine last longer.

Con's: Cost, don't know how well it works, and don't know how easily it would fall off especially if I were to hit a pothole.

So post up. What are your thoughts?

It's a good idea and can't hurt unless you knock the thing off and all that crap is suddenly released into your oil.

I don't see a point in it. A plain magnet stuck to the outside of the pan would do the same thing. And, as far as the shavings go it would only catch, crank particles, rings, and block matter... If those are leaving shavings in your motor you have bigger problems than a magnets going to fix.

I think they are worthless, we got samples and what not at my shop, but never tried to sell them because we figured why? But those magnets are strong, It takes a LOT of force to knock em off a filter

Putting them on the filter instead of the pan allows you to throw away the metal shavings when you change the filter.
