Default best placement for radar detector

Good simple question. Where is the best place to set a radar detector? Smack dab in the middle of the front window?

This is pretty much common sense. If you want to make it work the best, put it as high as you can and level with the road. That way it will pick up better when coming over a hill, where piggly wigglies tend to hide. The other part of the equation is keeping it out of sight since those same farm friends tend to write more tickets to those packin detectors.

I always wanted to mount it there or suspend it from a sun visor.

I think Whistler makes a radar detector that has the detector portion mounted under hood somewhere and runs a remote control to a small 2 1/16 pod gauge. I've always wanted one if I went back to using a detector.

The higher the better i've always heard. I hardwired mine into the fusebox (really easy) and have it mounted by my rearview mirror. It's a pretty good set-up, easy to read, but not in the way. I actually think that most people (including cops)can't even see it up there because its so high and the car's low enough. Here's a pic:

that's a sweet set-up OhOneGT. I don't have a detector yet, but if I got one, that would be the place to put it, however I have a tear drop tint on my windsheild that's about 10". Are they effected by tint?

I've heard people say that they're affected by tint but I personally have never had any issue with not getting a reading because of tint. There's no tint directly in front of mine but I still get reading from behind say as a cop passes just as wellason a non-tinted car.

^^^^ DANG

I hardwired mine as well and ran it through the dash up to the left hand side of my windshield for clean look. It works really well there also.

I also have mine on the left hand side beneath/behind my inspection and registration stickers. No need to worry about plug in, battery operated. Rechargeable battery operated FTW!!
