Default Question about window tint

ok so heres the deal. I got a guy around here that will tint my car for $110 all the way around 20%. Its a professional shop, and my buddies have had it done here before and say they do good work. Wel I called him and he said that he cant do it today.[:@] So. my question is.... how hard is it to tint yourself? would it be worth it, or should I wait? (im so impatient)

Ive tried it, did not turn out so good, ending up yanking it off and letting a pro do it. Theres a shop that has a tint cutter. You enter the make model and year of the car and it precuts tint for each window to the perfect spec. Thats better than what I could do lol

Don't do it yourself. I worked in autoparts stores and shopes for about 10 years. You can always tell the tinting that was done by a 'shade-tree' mechanic (do-it-yourselfer) vs the professional.

Many pro's these days have equipment that cuts the appropriate sheets for them. All they do is enter the year make and model of the vehicle and what tint they want and the machine spits out the precut. That takes care of part of the problems which occur with the improper over or undercutting of the old days. The second thing is they know how much or how little water and/or adhesive modifier to use. Too much or too little leads to clouding or poor adhesion (peeling)

I would HIGHLY recomend taking it to a pro. Especialy if you are getting it tinted all the way around for $110! I have seen a lot of people try it themselves and just end up wasting that time and money to tear it off. Average tint prices that I have seen for a coupe to have all 5 windows and a sun shade across the top of the windshield is $130-$160. $110 seems like a realy good deal. Especialy since 20% is darker than legal in most states, and I know that the only professional tint guys up here that will do illegal tin charge at least an extra $40 to do it, and refuse to give a receipt or certificate.

theres a guy here in houston that puts a titanium coating over his tint job so your keys or seatbelt wont tear the tint over time. anyone ever heard of this? he has a very good reputation around the area for his tinting so i know its for real, but after his quote for a strip of my tint now and to be redone running $360 i said f that. im not drivin an excursion with 7 windows crooks i tell ya[:@]

Me and a buddy did the second layer of tint on mine, It's not that hard, but it is a pain in the ***. It's damn near impossible to get all the bubbles out too. Professional tinting FTW.

Im in Houston, never heard of him, wheres he located??

Oh and Texas laws, rear windows dark as you can get em. Left and Right front 20% ^ for inspection, 35%^ legally. Nothing on the front windshield lower than 5" from the top or AS1 line. I personally have 5% all the way around, cept windshield, and it looks sweet.
