brakes wont stop
97 targa the pads are new and they're semi-metallic Wagner's
the first thing i did when i heard the squeek was sand them down a little bit because they might have been glazed over, but that didnt do anything [&o] they do have shims
i think that one of the clips that holds the pads in place might be bent a little and rubbing on the rotor whenever i hit the brakes...is this a possibility or am i just stupid? does ford sell the clips only?
brute03, im not cheap, i've already payed my mustang off by myself and im only 19 and in college
what have you done? [&:]

dan, when the guy cut my rotors he left some of the inside untouched...i guess he didn't know what he was doing or something...sometimes hard braking at slow speeds it will gind (like when i pull into my drive way)
but other than that, there isn't any

You mean when he turned your rotors?
Sounds like you just have noisey pads. I didn't catch what brand pads you used.

Couple of things I would look at. Different composition of pad (as in less semi-metallic material) some brands don't tell you but they automatically put a higher amount of metallic into the pad. This causes the pad to wear less (read last more miles) so they don't have to cover the cost of replacement under their "life-time" warranty.
The downside of doing that is it wears down your rotors faster, causes higher heat (brake fade), and in most cases will cause squealing.
There are two types of brake squeal.
1) Caused between pad and caliper - this can be resolved by using shims or anti-squeal at the appropriatecontact points.
2) Caused between rotor and pad face - this can be caused by glazing, burrs on the rotor, or incompatible surfaces like too much metallic in the pad or ceramic brake pads that chatter. Aside from sandpaper to break the glaze or re-turning the rotors, there is no cure. A different pad (or brand) must be used.
If you have shims then your problem is probably in #2. If you sanded them then I'm going with you need to change to a different brand of pad. Any reason you didn't stick with OEM besides cost?
well, from what i heard wagner made really good pads, but apparently not[:@]
im thinking im going to do a cobra/mach/bullit brake conversion, because this is annoying the **** out of me - it makes me feel like im driving a junker
anyone know how much this will cost? [&o]

each time you push your break your caliper might get seized. the brake quiet might fix the first time but like you said it might wear off. bleeding the brakes might help with this because it might allow the brake to have all the fuild it needs to work properly. maybe you just need to add brake fuild and not bleed them. good luck

the cobra brake kit is 400 bux, my pads and rotors squeel like a stuck hgog, and theyre still good, so I am not investing any more money, already done drilled and slotted rotors with hawk pads, so I will now get the cobra upgrade.
