EGR DELETE?
Can somebody explain to me what is an EGR delete is and how it is done. And does it affect the car at all. I already have a hand held tuner and some MIL will that keep the CEL off. Any info would be great. Thanks
Unless you specifically tune for it, deleting the EGR can cost you mid rpm and load range power (I.e. the ranges where most street driving is done) as the recirculated gasses actually cool combustion temps and allow for more advanced timing--this is all very counterintuitive, anda complete contradiction of all we have come to know about emissions control crap. It is also quite true and a much more complextopic thancan be adequately decribedhere. There are a couple of websites out there (Google EGR delete) that explain it well...
I started a thread about oil coming from my EGR tonight however I will ask a question here. Doesn't deleting the EGR cause a drop in fuel economy? That is what I have understand for quite some time. Google it is!
Here's a link to a Chevy site, however not holding that against them it's a very good and factual article about EGR--how it works, and why it's not the bad guy that many would have you believe...
