Default Negoitating with salesman.

I've been looking for a mustang for some time now, waiting till the winter to get the best possible price. This dealer by me has a certified warrantied 2004 mustang gt black vert with 22k miles. They want 18,900. KellyBlueBook is at 15k, so i'm thinking to offer him 13,000-13,500. What would you guys do?

I would look into a private sale as you can get an 04 for about 10-13k.

If you have cash, or pre-arranged financing offer them $12k and be prepared to walk out if they want any more than $13k. There is some value in buying a used car from a legitimate dealer with some sort of warranty--if they are of course a legitimate dealer. If you are thinking about financing it through the dealer then the selling price of the car itselfbecomes less of an issueas they'll figure out 11 other ways to get as much as they want from you anyway...

I do have cash, so I'm just gonna walk in there andoffer $12-13k cash. Do you think $12k is a little low for that car, or a little to low to offer.

Used car dealers usually mark up 3-5 K.. check to see if it was a trade. If so there is alot of room to work with. If they got it at an auction they problaby paid around 14's and low 15's

Retail should be more then that!!! Is it a 40th anniversary ed. 5 speed/auto???? leather?

go in there with the negatives.. dings/dents/scratches/tires/brakes/interior cond. overall condition....

Its a stealership, low ball the hell out of them. And like Cliffyk said, if you don't like their counter offers GET UP AND WALK (leave your phone number)! Chances are while you're looking at other stangs a couple days lateryou'llget a phone call with a new, good offer from them. Make them sweat it, not you.

And ifthe car sells in the mean time, no big deal. Mustangs are a dime a dozen. And +1 on a Mach 1/Cobra for that price.
