Automatic trans. question
On my grandpa's Automatic Durango you can shift it like it's a manual without any problems, it even shifts up for you while your driving(if you start in 1st gear, and you reach like 16 mph it moves the shifter to 2nd, and 3rd and finally drive).
Can my 2000 Mustang GT be shifted like a manual...1...2...3...D without any risk of damage?
Or can it shift up automatically like the Durango?
I'm cautious to test it out myself because knowing my luck, I'd break the transmission, rear end, and the cup holder all in one mistake.

its ok to manually shift the 4r70w but not the earlier AOD's .
the shifter will not move itself but you can shift it manually from 1-2-3 . dont do any WOT shifts into or out of OD or you will destroy the OD band .

I do it quite often on mine. It has 84k miles and I just had it flushed and inspected and the tranny shop said everything looked just fine. By the way, if you get on it pretty good and bump it from first to 2nd about 4000-4500rpm it'll bark the tires nicely. I don't bark the tires that way very often but once in a while when I feel the need or have some ricer behind me.
I shift my manu... ERR... I mean automatic all the time lol... WHen I go WOT and go from 1-2 my tires break loose... it doesn't do that when i leave it in D... and when I DS I just match the revs when I downshift so it doesn't jerk on the transmission.... it's a 4r70w BTW...
