Default automatic shifting squel

I have a 1998 GT and everytime I redline it from a standstill it will squel-(like there is a loose belt or something)shifting from first to second gear. What the hell is it and how do I fix it.

i have a similar noise that i get when i do that (very rarely though) sounds like it's coming from the rear of my car.....i figured it's the shocks/springs making a squeak on mine since mine are worn and old....just a thought......

....or it could be that massive amount of NPI power i cars have

look on your timing cover & see if your drivebelt is rubbing anywhere . I would almost guarantee it's that . when did you last replace it ?

nickmilloy:

The squeal is from the belt slipping. You might try a new belt if the old one has a few miles on it.

Exactly, its the belt slipping, when it shifts the motor suddenly drops RPM and all the accesories the belt drives have to slow down too, so the inertia of the pulleys may make them spin at different speeds for a moment causing the squeel,,, if you hear it from the rear, maybe your just chirping the tires, lol
