Default Thoughts on garages??

Looking for input on people who have put up garages. I currently have a single bay garage that holds my mustang and motorcycle for the winter...but things are pretty tight in there. I am starting to think about putting up a garage in my back yard. Any thoughts on stick framing vs. a steel building? Is there a size where one becomes cheaper than the other?

I am just starting to look into this but any input would be apprecaited. Pics would be great too. I only have the stang I'd like to keep in there for the meantime...but I'd like to bring my old 68 firebird from my folks house out to where I am living now so that I can play around with it.

I built a 24x32 Pole barn about 7 years ago for a little over $8000. I'm in the process of buying a new house and It doesn't have a barn yet and got a quote on a 30X40X10. The Garage kit was $5510 and Labor to build was $4320. And after Cement and electric I figure I could have a nice barn For around $13,000. These $ are in Michigan so it could be cheaper where you live.
But check with your Township before you get to far into your decision because some of them have ordinances on what type of building you can have[:@]

Your right...that is what I need! I also need a cobra or two to throw in there too...but unfortunately those are just dreams at this point. I just want some space to be able to work on a few toys right now. This is my first house, and its a duplex, so I dont plan on living here forever, but I do enjoy where I live right now and would like to put somethign up to keep me happy while I'm here. I dont want to get into building a huge garage and then move and leave it behind....I have seen stick frame kits for decent size two car garages for around 5500 bucks....but I'm just not sure if I'd be happy with just two bays...

At this point, I wouldn't be too worried if it makes you super happy or not, you should more than anything consider how it will improve the value of your property. If it is a duplex, make sure it is big enough to then be split into two so that once you leave, there would be one for each tenant. Since you will be renting out,the new addition will be a nice premiumthat will attract tenants, but only up to a certain point. If it is too big... there wont be a whole lot of people who will appreciate the true value and it will end up being unused space. Plan for what you will need for your immidate future, and instead save up for your next investment.
