Default CEL PROBLEMS

My 2002 GT with almost 60,000 miles on it(mods: Diablo chip and K&N air filter installed at about 30,000 miles) began to give me CEL codes on 12/3. The first three codes given were:

P1131 - Lack of HO2S11 switch - Sens Indicates Lean (Bank 1)
P1151 - Lack of HO2S-21 switch - Sens Indicates Lean (Bank 2)
P0174 - System Too Lean (Bank 2).

Only noticeable problem was RPM's decreased and engine seemed like it wanted to die when I was not moving. First attempts to correct problem included cleaning the MAF with MAF cleaner from Advance and replacing the IAC valve. I cleared the codes with my OBD-II tool.

The car ran fine for a few weeks until I noticed that the car seemed like it wanted to die again when car was not moving on 12/31. CEL came on again, with the codes now being:

P1131 (again),
P1150 - Lack of HO2S21 Switch - Fuel Trim at Limit (Bank 2)
P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1).

Last night, I disconnected wire from negative terminal on the battery and cleaned MAF again. This morning, I reconnected battery and started the car with the MAF connector disconnected. After driving less than 500 feet, I heard what sounded like a popping noise in my exhaust. This is the first time that this has ever occurred.

I plan to replace PCV valve today with Motorcraft PCV since they are cheap ($12) from dealer to see if that works.

Anybody have any ideas? Thank you.

Pull your 02 sensors out and take a look at them. Sounds like those are having issues. (Not plugged in all the way, dying, contaminated etc.)

Bank 1 is passenger side, Bank 2 is Drivers Side. Since it's giving you lean codes it would be the Front O2 sensors since those control the A/F ratio.

Thank you for the quick reply. I will check the O2 sensors tonight.

+1 on the O2 sensors (here's how to test them once you've got 'em out) The MAF has to be connected or the PCM will switch to "limp" mode and the engine will run, but like crap...

I just want to update everybody on my problem. The problem was caused by a crack in the plastic hose that is connected to the PCV valve. My car runs like a champ again. Problem solved!
