Monster Build??? or Overkill
My car is down right now but, I have been doing some research on my build to see what is the best course of action. My car, as it sits, has a spun bearing in my 03 Cobra shortblock w/ 48ishk on it. I have P&P nonPI heads on it too. I was contemplating sending my longblock(no blower or turbo...yet..) to MMR for work. Ideally, I would like to add some power and never have to crack my heads off again after their work. Cams will come but, I can do those later w/ the heads on the engine. The FI can be done later on too. Like I said, I just dont want to have to pull the engine or crack the heads again.
- rebuild by MMR
- Teflon coated pistons(A must for nitrous or not??? I am already spraying)
- Balanced and blueprinted
- Bronze valveguides(Is it worth it as far as lubrication???)
- Comp Cams valve springs(Can I do that from the topend w/ the valve covers off???)
- Valves and maybe valve job to match them
- Spring Retainers(Can that be done from the topend w/ the valve covers off???)
- Cam Spacers(Is the decrease in rotational mass worth it???)
- Oil pump by MMR(I am pretty much sold on that since I was having oil Press. prob. when I had the engine running.)
- Energy Suspension Motor and Tranny Mounts(Sold on this too)
- SFCs by Griggs Racing(sold on this)
Do I have this covered as far as keeping the engine together and running strong for a good while longer??? What else is needed to build my internals(Remember they are 03 Cobra internals). I hope to get to 450 rwhp w/ maybe a whiff of nitrous to top it off more as my final car output. I wanted to start the valvetrain so that I could spin this engine FAST and rev high. It will have stock cams for now but, when I go FI(prob. TT), I will cam it w/ custom cams from Comp Cams. What do you think and am I a dumbass for saving for an insane amount of time for this. All the tuning after it is build will hopefully be done by SGS Automotive for a street tune and a more racy tune. BTW, in my area at the moment, I can only find 90 oct. gas(I know, that sucks but, that is it). I am new in my area so I havent been able to find much. There are GT500s and Termies running around so there has to be better stuff here but, idk. I see STIs too. Thanks for any input and srry for the long post.

honestly if you have to do all that i would just save up the money and get the head's and cam done now that you dont have to tear down the heads or block again for a while... and are you also going to get a forged crank... mide as well i think that is cheap insurance.... not sure on all your specifics though...im still new to this too... maybe someone with more experience will chirp in... good luck though!
my mmr is fine so far, 10 psi on it with stroker and cam. no issues for 6 month. friend running 15 psi on his for 2 yrs not broke yet lol
umm they were both mmr, no teflon here. both of us have mmr oil pump, still kickin

since your car is down and you want to send your block to MMR for an "upgrade" i would do the valvetrain now and not second think it because now im pissed that i didn't do P&P w/ new cams because i'm definitely not lookin' forward to putting in some custom grind cams after i do my FI so i can rev / pull harder in the higher RPM's PI cams aren't cutting it for me right now [X(]
and great choice on the oil pump :] its pretty awesome.
and i think thats all good :] i have an MMR900 w/ most accessories and im currently N/A cause im broke [:@]

I would get your heads p&p while they are off. You can replace the springs later by removing the valve covers as long as you have an air compressor. There is no point for you to spin that engine any faster then 6000 rpms. You wont make any power. Your head, cams and intake dont flow enough air to make more power past 5500 rpms. Unless your in CA it would be a waste of money to send the block to MMR when a local machine can do the exact same thing they wil do.
Thanks for all of the responses. I do have a forged crank(03 Cobra internals) and my heads have a Stage II P&P from MMR. That is why I want them to do it. As far as spinning my engine in the high end, I should utilize that once I go FI. The heads are ported and I will be getting a new intake manifold too. I can change my cams out w/ the heads in the car using the Anderson Fordmotorsports cam tool.
Does anyone have any experience w/ the Teflon coatings on pistons. MMR says it is neccessary for nitrous and I was hoping for some other opinions. They have treated me ok so far but, I was hoping for some user opinions too. Thanks.
