Default dyno tune

i'm looking into getting a supercharger for my '02 GT, and i'm debating on either buying a used Vortech w/aftercooler (i'd still have to buy the injectors and fuel pump) or getting the Mongoose kit from MPH w/aftercooler, which includes a tune (i've heard nothing but good things about their custom tunes). if i go the used s/c route, i'll have to get a dyno tune for sure, so i'm trying to figure out what "normal" rates are for dyno tuning. i've called some shops here and they're all quoting me at about $150 an hour, and they said after the dyno time and the tune, i'm looking at between $600-$900. does that sound about right, or is that way too high?

go root style and then go either Kenne Belle, Whipple, or Eaton. The best way to go. Nice car.

KB and whipple do not make roots superchargers, and roots style superchargers suck.

thanks... i wasn't sure if they were trying to rip me off or if that was a normal rate.

i'm pretty sure i'm just going to go with the Mongoose kit, Vortech with aftercooler. MPH quoted me $4850 for the kit, and considering that it includesthe tune, i'm thinking it's a better option than buying the used one. i'd save about $500 buying the used one, but i have no way of knowing for sure that i'm getting a supercharger that's in good condition.

My tune was $550 flat rate for the software/chip plus the dyno time. I'm going back in the spring and since I already have the software I believe it's 150/hour. So charging you $900 is crazy. Unless they are the only dyno in 250 miles of you I would go somewhere else.

Your still going to want to check the tune on a dyno even if it is a famous "Tim Tune". You just never know every car reacts different.

+1 to the roots being crap. Oh and if you going to lump them all into one category, Eaton, KB, and Whipple s/c are called positive displacement blowers.

yeah i'm still planning on taking it in and putting it on the dyno, partly to see what kind of power i'm putting down, but mainly to check to make sure my tune is right. the shop told me that if i were to just do that, it would run about $150 or so. i guess that's reasonable enough.

2000GT4.6, i take it you have the MPH kit? if i get on the dyno and my a/f is off, do you know if MPH will change the tune for me? their web site says it comes with an XCal2, i've already got one and have the datalogging and xtreme tune software on my computer, i'm guessing they can just email me a new tune file? i haven't really messed with it a whole lot cause right now i've just got minor bolt-ons.
