What the hell?! (Tires)
OK, I've decided that the first thing I'm doing with my tax return is getting a set of rims and tires. I'm getting the Summit star wheels with 15x8 for the front and 15x10 for the back. I know the front is gonna be kind of wide for the wheels they are, but I don't really want to DD skinnies and I don't really like the look of skinnies too much. I can sacrifice 10 lbs for a look I like more. But on to the point...
How come I can't find any tire site that has 315/50/15 tires? Or something close to that size (no slimmer, though). I'm not looking for drag radials or slicks, or even a street tire with good traction. I'm just looking for an average tire (like the 315 Sumitomos, but for 15's) that I can DD with this wheel. I plan on getting a second set of the 15x10 rims with slicks or ET streets (depending on how much I get done to the car) when track season rolls around. Is there a company that makes regular tires in the size I'm looking for? I didn't plan on buying the tires online, I was going to go to my local Town Fair Tire and get them there, but I just wanted an idea before I bought. I don't want to buy these rims and then come to find out they don't make regular street tires for them.
Also, the first question is most important, but I just want to make sure I'm correct on this part. For the 15x8's I need a 5" backspacing and the 15x10's need a 6.5" BS, right? Just want to be positive. I won't need wheelspacer either, will I?
Wow, that turned into a much longer post than I thought. Thanks for anyone who reads this ramble...

because its not common that people put 315/50/15's on their car that arent drag racing it so its going to be very hard if not impossible to find a tire thats not a drag radial like that. and your looking for the wrong size btw, its 315/60/15.

What about those tires. They're drag radials, but how's the treadwear. I'm not too too worried about tread wear, but traction worries me. How's everyday traction. Will it be suicide to drive these in the rain? Snow I'm not worried about since I'm not doing this till about March, and I'm going to have a DD by next winter, but it does rain in the summer and spring. I couldn't find any wet traction ratings on them.
Oh, and will the 325's fit on the 10" rim? I don't care about "That's too much tire" or "You don't have the power for that tire", it'd just be cool to put 325's seeming they're the same price as the 315's.
Oh, and thanks Ecsatasy for the 60 instead of 50 thing. With the 325's I think I'll go with 50, though. I can't find any tires that aren't off road truck tires above 50.

uhh ive honestly never used those. i know bfg drag radials in general hook really well. those dont seem like they would do too bad in rain though by the design. as far as a 325 fitting on a 10". it will probably be close and possibly look a little bulky.. a 315 is recommended for 8.5-11" rim. so 325 is probably somewheres along the line 9"-11.5" or maybe 9.5" - 11.5" not sure. but i dont see why you couldnt do it. what brands do you have choices between? i goto the strip frequently and a few of my friends run 9-10's in the 1/4 so im familiar with slicks & drag radials. with 315 you dont have as many choices as you do 325/50/15. and if your going to go with 315 stick with the mt street radials, i know they do pretty good in rain. now as far as 325 you can get nittos nt555r's and they work great in rain, and last a bit, also you can get the mt street radials, and they even have goodyear drag radials in 325's and they do well in rain too.
I dont know why everyone wants to run drag wheels and even soemtimes tires on the street.
Get a set of wheels that look GOOD with properly sized tires that work on the street, and then get a set of rear wheels for the strip.
IF you want skinnies at the track, used 2 spare tires.
I have some 15 inch mustang wheels with 28x9 ET Drags on them and they are ugly but i only use them at the track....they do the job, and normally people arent trying to look suave while going down the dragstrip.

are you wanting to stick with a tire that's about the same overall height as stock, or will these be used for the strip only? the stock 245/45-17 is ~ 25.68" tall. to get close to that, if you have a 315 tire and a 15" rim, you'll want a 315/45-15, which will give ~ 26.16" height, about a half inch taller than stock. 315/60-15 would be 4.2" taller than stock (i saw someone suggest a 315/60-15). those BFG 325/50-15 that you're looking at are going to be about 2" taller (~ 27.8" tall). you're going to have trouble finding a tire in that width for a 15" rim if you're looking to stay close to stock tire height. but then again if it's a strip-only rear tire setup then it wouldn't really matter.

I think I might go to Town Fair tommorow and see what they can do for me as far as tires go. The whole reason I made this post was to see if there were any street tires in the size I'm looking for.
