Check the IAC?
Sometimes cleaning it out can help.

ORIGINAL: rainydayracing

I forgot to say that unless it has been tuned for premium gas, there's no need to use it. 87 is fine.
Yeah, unless you are tuned for the higher octane you are really just throwing money away. The only thing the straight pipes are going to do is make the car sound like a truck. I'm not sure what the problem is though. Maybe try replacing the fuel filter and checking the injectors to make sure they aren't clogged.

Fuel pump? Get the fuel pressure checked.

It sounds more like a spark problem, but usually you'll get a code for that.

what kind of cold air intake is it?
is there a bend before the MAF sensor?
is the MAF clean?
if its an exposed filter type CAI the radiator fan coming on could cause
surging.
thats where id check, good luck

It is a BBK cold air intake. Yes, there is a bend before the MAF sensor and yes, the MAF sensor is clean (we checked it last weekend). It is a non exposed filter. We are going to clean the IAC tonight and see if that fixes the problem.

my car did this onece. I took it to ford where my brother works & they hooked it to the diagnostic computer, because the car wasent throwing a code even the service engine light didnt come on. Their computer said that I had a missfire&that one ofthe coils was shot so they replaced all spark plugs & the bad coil. at that time my 01 gt only had 41kmake sure they did replace all spark plugs cause if only some where replaced it causes a bigger issue.

My car does that and it is a bad coil. i just dont have the money to afford the MSD cop's. do it right the first time and you dont have to do it again. i am almost sure that it is the cop's because i had that happen to me tonight.
