timing chain
I have a 2001 mustang gt. I need to change the timing chain.
The Haynes repair manual say to take the oil pan off in order to take the timing chain cover off. Do I actually need to do that?
Can I get around it? It seems to be a lot of work considering that Haynes says that I need to take the trasmission out to take the oil pan off.

There's no real reason to change the water pump, you don't have to take it off to do a timing chain. And the chain isn't self adjusting, it uses oil fed chain adjusters. If you're going to replace the timing chain I would definetly replace those. And check the condition of your arms and guides.... By the way, why are you replacing the timing chain?
I am replacing the timing chain because it makes noise. Well there is a noise inside the timing chain cover I hope is the timing chain.
I thought my water pump was going bad but after changing with a new one I found out it wasn't the water pump.
