NITROUS QUESTION
ok anyone that has nitrous help me understand something... if i get a nitrous system i need to get a tune for it. what i am wondering is lets say i am running a 75 shot, if i get a tune for it, how is my engine going to run when i am not using the bottle.. i really dont understand, is it something that i load the tune only when i am spraying and then have to put it back to stock when im not?
this is one of my major hold ups in buying a kit, i am not really sure about the tune part of it.. if someone could let me know that would be great

You dont have to switch it back to the n/a tune. But you would see more hp na with a na tune. But you can grab a hand held and you can have 3 different tunes(some maybe more now), and that would be the cheaper option. Then you can get a flip chip. Flip chip would be the most convient. and you could change it with a turn of the **** on your dash or console.
ok honestly i ran bottle on mine before i went turbo and they tuned my nos jets instead of getting a handheld device, any good dyno shop can tune your nitrous jets for you to have the best air ratio....i ran a 150 ashot on mine and it gave about 150 to the wheels and about 180 tq at a low rpm..check with a local dyno shop and ask them, i know were iam at it was like 100 bucks to tune the nitrous jets for my car and with like 5 runs to get the best numbers with it..
i have got a question...do you think a 100 dry shot would be safe for a 99 gt...i was told by the tuner that it wouldnt be able to handle it and it would blow and i cant have that happen...i would like to konw soon so i can get it tuned and ready to go...thank you
nitrous tune takes some timing off so you loose a few hp. nothing you would ever feel or notice driving around. its perfectly safe to run a nitrous tune without nitrous on but do not use a NA tune with nitrous unless you like skating on the edge.
black:
100 dry shot should be safe as long as you have the supporting mods. i wouldnt run a 100 dry shot personally, but i know theres several here that do. i'd get better injectors and a fuel pump though just to be safe.
ask him why he says your car cant handle a 100 shot. if he gives you some lame reason find another tuner. but in all seriousness, if you can't have your motor blow that bad then i wouldnt even use the spray. dont want you to be another of the "i blew my motor and i cant afford to fix it" guys. its a risk, if you choose to spray accept the fact that anytime you hit that switch you can blow your motor. is it likely when tuned and set up properly...no. but its a possibility.

although when you go get a tune with decr timing, you usually get the A/F dialed in, so you are right.
that is a good idea...i have new injectors and the tuner said that if i wanted to run the 100 shot he could do it but wont promise it to last very long...im most likely going to run a 75 first then maybe step it up...i need to also find a svt focus pump and i cant seem to find them anywhere...any ideas where to look if so let me know....
thanks alot

if you go with a wet kit you probably won't need a tune. NX I know is pretty good about not needing a tune but it couldn't hurt to put it on the dyno and check the a/f. I ran a 100 shot (NX) for 5 years untuned with no issues. A wet kit takes the fuel from the fuel rail so there is no need to richen up the tune (unless the a/f is off), as long as you don't have any timing advanced you should be fine. A dry kit usually adds the fuel through the injectors so you should get a tune for a dry kit. If you only have 1 tune and it is set to run rich for a dry shot the car will be a turn NA.
You could use a flip switch to go between tunes. I had a four bank chip so I could switch from the NA tune to the nitrous tune at the flip of a switch. Just dont forget to do that or you are asking for trouble.
As far as spraying, you are fine w/ 100 shot(for some other poster on the thread). You just want to tune it and use the safety goodies w/ it. You dont HAVE to but, from my experience, you want to. I am one of the the blown engines and no cash to fix it guys. It sucks royal *****. I would upgrade the clutch, fuel pump, and get a bottle heater as a minimum. Just my thought though.
