I have 4.30's and don't have to shift into 5th at the end of the 1/4 mile. Traction is the only issue, but a decent set of tires and good driving will fix that.

Gears do not give you power. Gears are a force multiplier. The lower the gear (higher numerically) the greater the multiplication force. In addition, the lower gears will cause your car to get into power faster, as you will be turning more RPM at a given speed. The opposite is true with higher gears.

You have 3.27's stock, and going to 3.55's would not be worth it in my opinion. I had 3.73's in my NPI GT a few years back and was a little disappointed. This time around I went with 4.30's and couldn't be happier. I think they are the perfect gear for a N/A 2v GT.

Here's the skinny. 4.30 is as steep as you can go with a stock housing. The difference in MPG is minimal with any gear, unless you go extreme like over 5.xx. The steeper the gear, the faster you car will be on the bottom end, and the lower your top speed will be. Since you can't hit top speed in the 1/4, you will come out faster through the 1/4. 4.10's are very popular because of the ease of the speedo correction. You can buy cheap speedo gear correctors for like $10 for the 4.10. Most other combos will need a speedcal, about $100.
Now my opinion is to go as steep as you can afford. If you can afford it, go 4.88. If you're on a budget, go w/ the 4.10, it will give you a noticeable difference, it's cheap, and easy.

ok so i am looking into buying a set of gears and i read up using the search function on here and im not sure what im reading....i have a friend that has 3.73's and when me and him raced by the time i was halfway thru 4th he was shifting into 5th...i really dont want to have to shift into 5th seeing how i get no power...so i was looking at a set of 3.55's like an 03/04 cobra has or a mach has....is this a good idea or not?

any help is appreciated...thanks guys

its just that all this gear talk is confusing the hell out of me....and now im not sure which way to go...so yea
i would def. atleast get 3.73's or 3.90's!! dont worry about not having any power when shifting into 5th gear. that only happens now b/c of the stock gears!! getting gears will fix that!!

hmmm what about 3.90's are they worth it..im not sure if i want 4.10's yet cuz i do alot of highway driving and gas mileage is kinda a concern seeing how gas by me is now 3.70 a gallon...so if i went to 3.90's would i be able to notice the difference? i already have drag radials and drag springs and a 75 shot of nitrous....and if i went to 3.90's what do you think i woul dbe able to pull in the 1/4 mile time wise?

i just want to say thanks for the great info
