ceramic headers keep heat down, they also resist rust longer.

yes the heat does take a little hp...but not enough to pay 200 more for ceramics lol. i got pypes SS headers, still waiting on em to come in..theres a few ppl waiting to see when i get em, ill make a thread.

okay yeah i have been looking at headers and mid pipe past couple days. Im looking for LT headers and H pipe. I see a lot of X pipes.. any reason why that is? i heard they make more power but the H pipe makes for deeper sound

Headers don't do much on these motors. And you definitely won't be able to tell the difference in power between stainless or ceramic. Ceramic coated will be your best bet if you are concerned with discoloration caused by heat and protection against rust. Stainless will discolor after a while and turn blue/purple/yellow like chameleon almost because of the heat and they are bare metal, but do a great job of resisting rust as well.

Default RE: headers

Typically ceramic coated headers are made ofmilder grades of carbon steel having thermal conductivies of 30+ BTU/hr** -- the ceramic coating (real ceramic coating, like JetHot, not ceramic rattlecan paint) is an insulator and keeps heat in the header. As hotter gasses flow faster and easier than cooler gasses this is good, it also keeps the engine compartment cooler which is of course also good.Stainless steel conducts heat far less well than mild steel (around 8 BTU/hr) and because of this their performance is somewhat similar to a coated mild steel header with regard to retained heat. The best would be coated stainless.--------------------------------------** - I haveabbreviated BTU/(hr.ft2.oF/ft)as BTU/hr for improved readability.
