I have never experienced any of the above problems, but I own an 04 and they were all fixed by then.

But I have had my valve seals dry rot and destroy the stock engine, the tranny not want to play in 3rd gear anymore and a driverside axle that didn't like 1.5 60' runs.

But I love when stuff breaks, gives me a reason to upgrade. Keep up the good work Ford.

This is a very impressive, good, clean, and healthy attitude!Similar thinking has kept me going for 45+ years of dealing with gas-powered things...

the majority of the people that have these "common" problems, treat the cars rough. No car can handle being raced or constantly WOT without having "common" problems. These cars if just driven like 80% of drivers drive will not have these "common" problems.

The intake manifold problem is real, and I don't believe anyone in this thread has said otherwise. It was alsothe subject of a TSB and eligible for warranty replacementin fact many were replaced free of charge out of warranty.Ford agreed in 2005 (after a class action lawsuit was filed) to provide a 7-year extended warranty. This has of course now expired for all Mustangs that came with the all-plastic manifold.

I just found out last weekend that mine is cracked. I'm weighing out my options now and leaning towards the Edelbrock Victor Jr.

The timing chain guides/tensioner is only a problem after 200k for the most part for the people I know that have had to do it. I've never seen a head gasket in a 4.6 go bad that wasn't under boost, I'm sure it happens once in a while but I wouldn't call it common. Never heard of the spark plug problem and if the 8.8 is so prone to failure, why does every Jeep guy and their brother want to swap an Explorer 8.8 into their wannabe rock crawlers?
