As for your problem. I replied in your other thread.
Your car should have Z rated tires if you have 17's which can handle up to 149mph. The 96/97's didn't have a top speed limiter. The 98's did however. I had a 97gt and it wouldn't budge over 138mph. That's as fast as the car can go with the power the motor has. The motor just doesn't have neough gut to make the car go any faster through the air that it's pushing. I had 3:27's in that car stock. My boy had 2:73's and his car would do the same, actually only 137mph. No cuting off so it's not a speed limitor. The car would just sit there as that's all it could do. Boy let me tell ya, it took a looooooooong time to get there! Like 4 miles to be exact!...lol My cobra will hit that 4th gear within 10 secods after shifting from 3rd. You really have no need and I strongly reccomend no going that fast in a completely stock GT. The car is just not built to handle those sustained speeds. The car is all over the place and it feels very unstable. The only way is to upgrade all suspension components before it feels remotely stable.
Look at theB-post sticker on the driver's side; if the car came from the factory with Z-rated tires it will say so on the sticker and the speed-limiter will not be set, if it did not have speed rated tires the limiter will be set at 120 MPH.
