Do you mean like seeing one on the road? Well, dual exhaust, fog lights, different side scoops (for 01-04 at least), bumper cutouts for exhaust.

Seriously, telling the difference only takes a few seconds of critical thinking, and the ability to read.

 

Open the hood, count the cylinders. 6 = V6 ; 8 = V8 = GT

That's the only TRUE way to tell. V6's can have dual exhaust and fog lights and those who don't know the sound can mistake a V6 for a V8.

A v6 with duals def doesn't sound like a v8.
Like previously stated the easiest way is look for duals, exhaust cut outs, fog lights, etc... but the only way to tell for sure is to pop the hood.
