All of hitech's cams have a .550/.500 lift. I thought for that you don't need aftermarket valve springs? Maybe I'm wrong or it's a mistaked. ???

Their stage 3 only recommends springs.

i would get em anyways.. its only like 200 bucks more for no headaches. i just like the hitechs more because they are heavier on the intake side.. its still an ongoing battle wtih hitch vs cushman for me tho.. still havnt made up my mind 100% but im leaning more towards hitech

Well, the 200 bucks and bad, but they are a pain to install, or at least thats the impression I get.

And a while back, I believe I saw someone install some stage 1 cams without springs, and instead of taking the timing cover and all that off, they just took off the valve covers, unbolted the cams, and just swapped out the cams in the same positions. Can you do it like that without timing issues?

But to the OP, I think you would be happy with either CMS or Hitech, they both have had good results.

although the lift may not require new springs I consider it something necessary anytime you switch cams. Safe "cheap" insurance, stock spring are made for one purpose, longevity for it's cam application only.

It's actually .545" lift, but either way, you should never run that much lift with the stock pathetic valvesprings.

Secondly, I think most of you are forgetting that lobe ramp rates also play a significant role in spring fatigue rate, not overall valve lift.....

for me, it was a bit of extra insurance. The heads were already apart, might as well go with stronger valvesprings. Plus, if I go with Stage 2 cams, they'll already be done.

You should never take shortcuts with intalling cams. You should always degree aftermarket cams and always upgrade the springs. Aftermarket NA cams open much faster and higher. With the weak springs the the valve will float (lose contact with the follower/cam) and can ruin the cam lopes pretty quick.

Stock lift is .504 and .531 so any cams that are more then .010 lift then stock should have upgraded springs.
