I just got my patriot stage 3 heads in that I ordered from cushmans about a week ago. I had my buddy drop them off to get checked and additional porting done. The owner of the shop emailed me and said the heads are in very good condition. The valve guides are good and will not need to be replaced and all spring install hights are within specs. Basicly the heads came perfect from patriot. Which saves me some money cause no I just have to pay for additional porting.

so, some people like patriot heads and some like fox lake. fox lake has better specs, but costs a little more. stage 3 is a personal choice with amount of money you want to spend (although, like most people id feel bad buying a lower stage knowing there is better out there...). with these heads installed, i will most def. need a tune though, right?

but are you willing to bore the motor out just to clear the bigger valves of a stage 3? Bigger isn't always better...

So what would be more cost effective getting your own heads ported and polished or buying patriot performance heads? And would that bump up the compression or not?

i'm obviously not familiar with them on the 4.6, but over in the 5.0 world they have a pretty bad rep because of the quality and craftsmanship that they have...IMO i would go with another company

with your car, it would not bump up compression. if you wanted a bump in compression, you would need a new set of pistons. but regarding the first question, its a matter of whether you would want your heads that have been through however many miles you put on them ported or brand new heads ported. you are way better off getting the new heads and valvetrain than getting your old heads ported. quality would be better with the new heads.

Yes it will^

It would change his CR to about what it would be with a PI head swap. give or take 0.1
