i dunno about plastic, but i've got access to the machine shop equipment at school and think i'll give it a try too...only mine will be for the mgw shifter.
Well It doesn't necessarily have to be plastic, you could make a metal gate frame and just make a plastic cover, I just think that anything big and shiny would look out of place.
