Red face PULLED THE ENGINE AGAIN

Ok guys as some of you might know I had a knock in the engine about a month ago. So I took it out fixed it put new cams, pistons, crank, and upgraded the values ect.... Well about three days ago the knock cam back. So once again I pulled the engine, took her apart and found that a value guide had broken off on the intake side and that all the intake values are hitting the pistons.

*****Note to anyone that puts the Comp Cams XE270AH in you should take the time to notch the pistons. To be on the safe side****

Because we have the engine already out. My dad and I decided to put the comp cam XE728AH in, along with a 2400+ stall converter. But I have a some Questions

1. What is the bolt pattern size for the stall converter in a 99 Gt mustang. (I called around and looked on the net, but everyone has conflicting answers. I thinks its the 11.5" pattern)

2. I need to know the Spline and Tooth count for the flywheel.(I think 26 Spline and 164 tooth count)

3. Does anyone know where I can get a good price on a 2400+ stall convert and what are some good brands. (So far i found a TCI for $280.00)

4. Does anyone have any insight on what else I should look at?

Its always been my understanding that comp 270s dont need notched pistons.. thats VERY strange that yours did. Comp 270s are like a stage 2 cam, not to terribly aggressive at all.

EDIT: i had a brain fart while typing.. fixed lol

You do need to upgrade the value springs and on the 278s you need 3.73+ gears, 2400+ stall. Intake, exhaust, and computer upgrade.... .The 278s are like Stage 3s

Look at the Comp Cam web site to see what I see.

O Ok I see, but this is whats needed needs 3.55+ gears. 2000+ stall. Intake, exhaust, computer and springs.

But the values still hit the pistons.

XE270's are very agressive, they are one of the most aggressive off the shelf cams you can get from Comp Cams. They showcase .55" of gross lift, and that's pretty big if you don't have anything else to go with it and the cams aren't properlly timed.

I think even the XE278's have the same lift figures, just a different duration spec.

and what springs did you go with?

when I was running a modified 4R70W, I think my torque converter was from these guys
http://www.converter.com/stallion.htm

they should be able to help you.

alot of these companies will know the answers to your questions, just give them your information, car year, etc, and they can tell you what's going on
