Default Cobra shortblock

Probably going FI in the future and I want a built bottom end first. I've seen an 04 cobra shortblock for sale for about $1400 and was just wondering if it is worth it. At that price it is significantly cheaper than anything from MMR or others. How much power can a stock cobra shortblock take?? And what's the going rate for an install?

I'm just trying to decide what I'm going to do to my car next and set some goals to save for.

The Cobras can run 700rwhp on the stock shortblock and the 2v heads will go on no prob. When you are putting the timing chains on there, you do have to drill the block to put the proper pins in to hold the retainers. That is about it as far as the shortblock going into a GT.
