first cross sectional area very close, tensile strength is very close, am i paying extra for the bends basically?

IMO go with the steeda ones. I went with the MM ones painted black and I love them. The fit and quality is top notch. Maybe check them out.

bends, hardware, and easy install.... but essentially YES... if you can fab up something yourself then go for it!!

you get more than just tubing with a kit tho.. u get the bends, which are accurate, and u get seat supports(stuff like that)

its a toss up really, if you know someone who can do the bends then go for the DIY kit. but it could get more expensive if u gotta pay to have it bent.

SILLY QUESTION

Do these make the ride WORSE (more stiff over bumps n **** etc) or BETTER (somehow?)?

From all accounts iv read, the ride gets better. less creeks and moans while driving also.

you cant really tell the ride over bumps at all, but when your pulling into a driveway (at an angle) you can feel that your car doesnt twist like a wet paper towel. It just feels waay more solid

From an enginerring point of view, The stiffer the better. I wish Kenny brown still made the cross section bracing. That thing was awesome. FLSFC with sort of a truss design between them(connecting the 2 sides of the car). If u can get them bent I would go with the DIY stuff.
