Ok heres the problem, or I think its a problem... when my car is at idle, whether its warmed up or cold, it fluctuates about 100 to 200 rpms at random times, usually like a minute or so apart, but it never fails to happen. It usually idles at like 750-800 rpms but jumps to like 1000 randomly. Is it my fuel filter? I just bought one but havent had time to install it yet. Could it be that my injectors are a little clogged or something? Just a guess I really have no clue... If you have any ideas or if your car does this and its just a normal thing with mustangs please let me know. Thanks.

 

Check/clean your Idle Air Controller (IAC) It's common, I think everyone on here as posted this at least once. There is a search in the blue bar towards the top of the page.

 

With the car running, Take you're left hand and put it on the fender and then take you're right hand and grab the one of the coil packs and then the other. Tell me if anything happens. If it does, then you have a cracked coil pack.

Then if nothin happens, use your DMM and check the packs for proper ohms.

 

Sorry I didn't check the search option. I just wanted a direct answer for my specific question. Sometimes you get an almost answer with the search bar. Know what I meen? But its definitely not the fuel filter... BLACK35TH where is my Idle air controller; and SXYNERD by if anything happens you meen I get shocked or something? I will check it tomorrow. Thanks.

 

Yeah, it's kinda exciting.... Not knowing if it's going to shock you or not. I learned the hard way 3 times. I didn't realize my coils were bad until much later when I started having the same symptoms. It's nothing serious just a sharp wake up call.

The IAC is the silver unit that's attached to the front of the PLen that has the rubber hose and the black plastic box connected to it.

 

Yea I know what you mean, this search does suck, but for some things it works.

The IAC is on the front of the plenum. It's easy to find, it's bolted on the front. Hard to explain but not hard to find, sorry I dont have any pics or I would post some up.

Look it up in your manual

It helps when all you do is go to school and sit in front of a computer, lol. And then when I'm not in front of a computer with my Blackberry and the internet on the phone, I just play on the net when the Profs are talking and giving out long droning monotone lectures that are never going to be on the tests. One Prof is actually Deaf so you can imagine how well that actually goes.

Alright I did what you said and nothing happened. I will clean the IAC tomorrow. I'm trying to sell it so i don't want to be test driving it and then it starts looping up and down and not know how to explain it lol. Thanks for the help.
