Default Picking up a wrecked GT

So yeah been shopping around for a new car lately. Most 99-04 GT's in my area are selling for around 8k (100k+ miles)-12k+ (40+miles). My budget is right around 12k.

However I've come across a wrecked GT on craigslist for a little over 1000.. I checked it out, not to bad. He was asking more but I worked him down. I could part it out for more then I'm buying it for.

Its a 99 GT. 150k miles. 5 Speed t45 with reverse trouble. Mach 460. Black Leather. Flow 40's exhaust.

Parts needing to be returned to stock-
Radiator support-100
Headlight Panel-60
Windshield-250
Mirror-40
Fenders-200

Parts need to be placed but I might as well upgrade at the time as I'd want to be them on whatever next car I buy..

03-04 Cobra hood/F&R Bumpers/Side Skirts/Spoiler-1200
AM blacked out headlights-200
Paint-3000

Parts to place for the hell of it
Stock block bored .020 over-150
MMR900 internals (minus crank)-1300
Forged mach1 (18k miles) crank I already bought off ebay-125
IRS-know a guy wants to swap his for a SRA
heads ported/new valves-maybe 500
new tranny, havn't decided on 5 or 6 speed-2000

Total brings me up to about 10,1250. Add in another 2 grand for tuning and misc parts and puts me right at about 12 grand. Same price as an 04 GT selling up the street with 35k miles BUT i get..

BRAND NEW-
forged motor-for later on down the road
Brand new tranny- not a ****ty t45 or 3650
Ported and rebuilt heads
IRS
Brand new paint

What you guys think? Going on thursday to pick it up ill post more pics then.

Come on man I'm not a total noob =p. Guy ran into a deer on a back road. We drove it to my shop and put it on the rack last week. It's good to go minus the parts that have to be replaced I listed above. Repainting the car will be the longest/most expensive thing as it's the only part i can't do at the shop myself.

Any particular reasoning behind this?

If you were a body guy and you were used to doing that stuff all on your own, I'd say go for it... But since you'd end up having a shop do all the labor just buy a car that's already in good appearance

i dont think i would go through with it.....

your budget allows for an uncrashed GT; why not just go with that?

besides...that thing probably wont be very reliable on the street. who knows what other problems it might have.

btw....fobra FTL.

All body pieces from blueoval come prepped, primered, and ready for paint. As far as sanding the rest of it it down..and reputable paint shop will demand they do their own prep work before they paint a car. The 3k is for an oem paint job, not Fact-O-Back.

Because why pay for a stock gt that has a...

crap motor & tranny that will have at least 35k miles already on them.

When i could have a BUILT motor & tranny with almost 0 miles for the same price.

BTW, F you guys I'm still picking it up lol. I can always part it out and make more then a grand.

Sounds like you have everything planned out... Go for it if this is what you really want to do. Just know what you are getting yourself into...

Me personally, i would rather just buy a car that's already in decent condition.

Where do you live?

Oh yeah - go ebay with the headlights. they are all produced by the same company. i was an idiot and paid 200 for the AM ones when i could've gotten the same ones for 100. so take 100 off ur price

i would. but I really despise the stock rods. So if i bought a stock gt I'd probably replaced the motor anyways within a month after I blew it up (have a ZEX wet kit sitting in my apartment). And I'd still want the 03-04 Cobra body pieces. So I really feel its the best route for the cheapest price. If i had to pay a shop to install it all that mgiht be different, but I dont. Btw I'm way down here in Pensacola Fl.
