Camaro SS-WS6-The rest of us....haha
OK, so im not sure if this is really the right section, so mods please feel free to move to the appropriate if its not. This less of a question and more of a discussion i suppose. I'm trying to get fellow 4.6ers takes on the differences between our motors/cars and the Camaro Z28 and SS, and the TA WS6 especially. All i know is that i will get spanked by them all lol.
So, they use pushrod motors no? Is there a huge difference in efficiency by design or are they more powerful by sheer displacement? Also, given the impressive performance specs, why arent they made anymore? I have seen some WS6's when i lived in pittsburgh that kinda wanted to make me cry lol-they were that much faster than me. Granted, i was in my blown ranger but it was about as fast as a stock new edge.
So, what do you guys think? Is the LS1 really a better motor? Or just bigger? Anyone here owned both brands? I've been a Ford guy as far back as i can remember...but its tough trying to defend myself when i cant even keep up with a stocker LS1 and i dont have any real reason to like my car better other than personal preference.

An LSX motor is a superior design. It is not just size. Everything about the motor is better. They are bigger, get just as good if not better GM(mostly due to the 6 speed..but ford could have done that 2). they are just better IMO.

wow this topic is probaly gonna start a war but i will tell you this. ive owned a blown 2v 4.6 and my current ls1. if were talking about motors only, then yes the ls1 is 10x better than the 4.6 2v or 4v. the torque curve is far superior in my n/a ls1 than any 2v can ever dream of. my car with cam/exhaust is making 400rwhp that cost me about the price of a full exhaust for a 2v. but the advantage the 4.6s have over the ls1s is they are easily supercharged/turbo'd which makes big power. it takes quite a bit of money to add a blower on an ls1 b/c of limited space and limited aftermarket but that is slowly beginning to increase. n/a to n/a the ls1 is the top dog by far in power and price. s/c the 4.6 is easier/cheaper to make power but the ls1 most of the time makes more due to more displacement and better flowing heads.

oh and my car made 301rwhp bone stock, and picked up 83rwhp with just a cam and LTs, then another 15-20 with the TDs. the only 4.6 that compete with that is the 03-04 cobra but they are s/c'd. n/a they just cant compete
even my vortech blown GT wouldnt keep up with my maro. the mustang was an awesome car, looked great, drove great but never made me 100% happy. somethin about a lumpy idle and insane torque curve that makes this car an absolute blast to drive!

LSX also have a higher compression ratio... I have been on both sides and hands down the Ls is better.

Yup... And the funny part is ppl try to say that the 5.4 can compete...but it cant. GM just stuck with what works and kept improving on it. Ford tried to reinvent the wheel with the modular BS. About the only thing ford got right was the exhaust note IMO.
