restoring headlights?

Default restoring headlights?

my headlights are a little faded and have some small scratches in them and stuff. im eventually gonna buy smoked ones, but in the meantime, will clearcoating them with a spray can make them any better? or will that just make them worse? i want to do something with them until i get smoked ones...what do you guys think

You need to rub out the scratches using a plastic polishing compound.

Hit up Tap Plastics and get some polish they recommend for your grade/type of plastic. Will take some elbow grease, but will come out just fine with some effort.

depending on the condition, you may need to sand them from rough to fine grit sand paper.

I tried wetsanding and polishing mine and it didn't do a damn thing. Mine were in really poor shape though. I got fed up with it and just ordered new ones. YOu can get smoked ones on ebay for about $80 ship

It all depends on what grit you started with.

You didn't do it right if it didn't do anything. Mine came out looking like new.

It definitely wouldn't be the first time I didn't do something right. I do like the way the smoked ones look though.

I think when I did mine I started with a 1000 grit and worked my way up to 2000 grit paper. It took a lot more time and effort than I had anticipated, but they turned out so much better than before.
