Transmission fluid check and add
My shifter came loose and has been dripping transmission fluid over the last month or so. Today, I noticed it and bolted it down. I was wondering how does one check the transmission fluid level and (if necessary) add more to top it off? What type of fluid does a 2002 GT 5 speed manual take?
Thanks ahead of time!

The Ford spec is Dextron ATF, Tremec recommends Mobil 1 ATF, many (including myself) use Royal Purple Synchromax, or GM Synchromesh--3.0L (3.2 qts) is the amount per Ford TSB 04-15-6.
You cannot really check the level, as when filled with 3.0L the level will be 1" or so below the fill hole--just drain it and re-fill, after the shifter being loose it would not be a bad idea to change the fluid anyway...

heh...the fill/drain plugs are not in the engine bay.
They are on the side of the transmission towards the middle of the car, closer to the front. Drain plug is on the bottom, fill on the top. It is pretty simple (to change the trans fluid) once you know where the plugs are, but adding fluid through the fill hole will take some time. You would need a specific tool/pump to put the fluid in because the bottle won't fit.
