So long story short I took my car(01 GT) in finally to see why it had been running so rough and after a compression test it turns out there is a cracked piston in cyl #1.

now my question is, what are the chances that there is damage to the block? Can I make it by with just a piston swap or am I going to have to replace the block as well? (the car still is running at this point).

just the smallest bit when the rpms are higher.

You will more then likely need to have you block bored .020 over since you are probably scratching the walls.

Well thanks for the help .

But I'm kinda still a noob to alot of this but with the motor would I need to get it pulled to remove the piston or could I just drop the oil pan to replace them?
(I don't plan on doing the work but just so I have a heads up before I take it in)

But I took it to ford an they did a compression test on the motor and that's what they gave me for an answer on the rough idle.

I am sure there is something wrong but there could be a bad valve or something that would be alittle cheaper then haveing to pull the hole motor apart and the next ??? would be why is there a bad piston since you would not want it to happen again to me i just thing that something happend to make it that way if that is the case!!! hopeing for the best for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey thanks for the advice Brian, after talking to a few buddies and now after reading this i def am taking it into another shop for another compression test,a non Ford Dealship, and see if it really is the pistons or lets cross our fingers and hope its just the valves. Secondly not all sure on what caused it but hopefully figuring out what the real problem is will help us figure out an answer to the second ?
