Default Stuttering... and a engine makeover

Hey I have a 2001 GT. The car has been with me for about 2 years now with no problems. However, 2 oil changes ago I started having problems. About 500 miles before and after each oil change the car did not accelerate properly. It stutters and hesitates really badly. Then it will go away only to come back again. I took it to Firestone and they couldn't tell me what was wrong with it. Any ideas?

Also, my car has recently hit the 100k mile mark. I have started to save up some money to add mods, nothing too serious. Before I start though, I want to give back to the engine everything lost over the first 100k. I want it to last 50k longer or so, and I want it to liven up and make it reliable for the new mods I am going to put on it. What would you suggest I do?

Thanks for the help

Have you changed the fuel filter or spark plugs recently? If not I would deff start with that.

Fuel filter is a MUST!!! And probably the plugs should be checked if not replaced. Hey, maybe try seafoaming the thing but you should do a typical tune up on it id say.

Thanks, any idea how much it will cost to get a good tuneup? Also, the engine makes this weird whirring sound on acceleration. What could that be?

WHINE = gear's, depending on where you hear it from, is it the front of the car or the back of the car you hear this whine?

Sounds like your alternator is going bad...just like mine. Could also be an idler pulley. Change the idler pulley first and if it doesnt fix it, it is probably the alternator. And depending on what you want to do for your tuneup. Accessory belt, fuel filter, new plugs, and new air filter are what i would do. That will run you close to, if not over, $100. But it will help. I got a 20% gain in gas mileage when i changed my fuel filter at 93,000 miles. And it helped with throttle responce too.
